SAS Nagar (Punjab): The water level in the Ghaggar River surged past 70,000 cusecs at 8 am on Friday, forcing the district administration to issue a flood warning for villages located along the embankments.

Officials said continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment area, combined with the release of water from Sukhna Lake, has intensified the threat to low-lying regions. Residents of the Derabassi subdivision have been advised to remain on high alert.

Villages likely to face flooding include Tiwana, Khajoor Mandi, Sadhanpur, Sarsini, Alamgir, Dangdhera, Mubarikpur, Mirpur, and Bakarpur.

Authorities have urged people to stay away from riverbanks and remain vigilant. Rescue teams and relief operations are being kept on standby to respond to any emergency situation.

For assistance, residents can contact the DC Office Control Room at 0172-2219506 or 76580-51209, and the Sub Division Derabassi office at 01762-283224.
