New Delhi— Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held high-level bilateral talks with Vietnamese President To Lam at Hyderabad House, marking a significant moment in India-Vietnam diplomatic engagement as the two countries celebrate a decade of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The meeting followed a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President To Lam was received by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, underscoring the growing depth of ties between the two nations. The reception featured a vibrant cultural display, setting a warm and cordial tone for the discussions ahead.
The leaders are expected to deliberate on a wide range of issues, including strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing key regional and global developments. The visit is being seen as an important step in further expanding the multifaceted relationship between India and Vietnam.
President To Lam began his India visit in Bodh Gaya on Tuesday, where he offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple, reflecting the deep civilisational links between the two countries. He was welcomed in Bihar by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary before travelling to Delhi, where Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai received him.
Ahead of the summit, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met the Vietnamese leader, discussing avenues to enhance cooperation. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said both sides exchanged views on strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership, with President To Lam expressing keen interest in deepening bilateral dialogue.
The visit is being described by the MEA as a “significant juncture” in ties, coinciding with ten years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Beyond Delhi, President To Lam is scheduled to visit Mumbai, where he will attend a business forum at the National Stock Exchange and engage with state leadership to promote economic collaboration.
The ongoing engagements highlight how longstanding historical and cultural connections between India and Vietnam have evolved into a robust modern partnership spanning strategic, economic, and diplomatic domains.
