Amritsar: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Punjab Police’s Counter-Intelligence unit in Amritsar has uncovered a narcotics smuggling operation and arrested one person near Adda Manawala on the Amritsar–Jalandhar highway.
Officials said around 6 kilograms of heroin was recovered during the operation, which was carried out based on precise intelligence inputs. The accused was intercepted before the consignment could be transported further, preventing its distribution.
Preliminary findings indicate that the arrested person was allegedly working under the direction of a handler based in Dubai. The handler, identified as Antarpreet Singh from Sultanwind, is believed to be actively involved in cross-border narcotics trafficking and has several criminal cases registered against him.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigators are now working to trace the wider network linked to the operation. Efforts are also underway to identify other associates and potential supply routes.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal drug trade and dismantling organised smuggling networks in the state.
