BJP Leader Ashwani Sharma Bereaved, Elder Brother Passes Away

Chandigarh: Ram Prasad Sharma, the elder brother of BJP Punjab’s working president Ashwani Sharma, passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 63.

According to family sources, R.P. Sharma had been under treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, for the past two weeks. His condition worsened in recent days, and he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he battled for three days before breathing his last.

A retired Assistant General Manager with Power Grid, R.P. Sharma played a guiding role in the life of Ashwani Sharma. Known for his calm demeanor and supportive nature, he was often described as a fatherly figure who stood firmly by his younger brother in every phase of life.

The family followed a joint household tradition, with R.P. Sharma and Ashwani Sharma residing together in Pathankot. Relatives and well-wishers remember him as a pillar of strength who deeply valued family bonds.

The cremation will take place on Thursday, August 29, at 11 a.m. at the cremation ground near the Civil Hospital in Pathankot.
