Ambala/Amritsar: A powerful explosion struck a railway line in Punjab late Monday evening, damaging a section of the Ambala–Amritsar freight corridor and triggering a high-level security response. The incident occurred near the Rajpura–Shambhu stretch around 8:30 pm, officials said.

Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police rushed to the location soon after the blast was reported. The affected portion of the track has since been cordoned off, and movement on the route is being closely monitored.

During the search operation, authorities recovered a severely mutilated body near the explosion site. Investigators suspect the deceased may have been involved in planting an improvised explosive device and was killed when it detonated prematurely. Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the individual.

Sources indicated that a warning related to a possible threat to railway infrastructure had surfaced days before the incident. However, preliminary information suggests that the alert may not have been thoroughly examined at the time. Officials are now reviewing whether the earlier input had any connection to the blast.

Adding to the mystery, two motorcycles bearing registration numbers from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana were found abandoned near the site. These vehicles are being examined as part of the investigation to trace possible suspects or accomplices.

Given the seriousness of the case, central agencies are expected to join the probe. Security has been tightened across nearby areas, especially along the border regions, as authorities work to determine the origin and intent behind the explosion.
