Chandigarh: Punjab Police continued its state-wide campaign against drugs, “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, for the 179th consecutive day on Wednesday. The latest crackdown covered 333 locations across the state and led to the arrest of 99 drug smugglers after the registration of 68 first information reports (FIRs). With this, the total number of arrests since the beginning of the drive has risen to 27,409.

During the raids, police recovered 985 grams of heroin, 21 kilograms of poppy husk, 1,625 intoxicant tablets and capsules, along with ₹9,850 in drug money. The coordinated operation was conducted on the directions of Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav across all 28 police districts.

Chief Minister Mann has directed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to intensify efforts to make Punjab a drug-free state. To ensure strict monitoring, the state government has set up a five-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that over 100 police teams, involving more than 900 personnel and supervised by 64 gazetted officers, carried out the raids. Police also questioned 364 suspicious individuals during the day-long exercise.

As part of the government’s three-pronged “Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention” (EDP) strategy, police persuaded 54 individuals to seek treatment and rehabilitation. Officials reiterated that the fight against drugs would continue with full force until the menace is eliminated from Punjab.
