Chandigarh, August 27, 2025: Punjab has recorded its highest labour cess collection in the past four years, reaching Rs 310 crore in the financial year 2024–25. The figure marks a sharp rise compared to ₹203.94 crore in 2021–22, Rs 208.92 crore in 2022–23, and ₹180 crore in 2023–24.

Labour Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond credited the achievement to the state government’s efforts under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He said the Punjab Government has strengthened compliance, transparency, and monitoring in labour welfare to ensure fair collection and usage of funds.

The Labour Department has streamlined cess collection and adopted digital platforms to enhance efficiency and accountability. Sond emphasized that the funds will be directed towards the welfare of construction workers, particularly in areas like healthcare, education, skill development, and social security.

He also highlighted that the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has simplified welfare schemes, including the Stipend Scheme, LTC Scheme, and Shagun Scheme. All services under the Labour Department have now been digitized to provide easier access for beneficiaries.

The minister added that the increase in cess collection is not only a financial milestone but also reflects improved governance and proactive policies in Punjab’s labour sector.
