Punjab Government Revokes Suspension of IPS SPS Parmar, Probe to Continue

Chandigarh – The Punjab government has given major relief to senior IPS officer Surinderpal Singh Parmar by revoking his suspension orders. The decision comes in defiance of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ suspension directive, which the state government termed as unjustified.

A few months ago, three senior officers were suspended over alleged financial irregularities and corruption in the Transport Department. These included former Vigilance Bureau chief IPS officer SPS Parmar, SSP Harpreet Mander, and AIG Swarnadeep Singh. While Mander and Swarnadeep Singh have already been given a clean chit, proceedings against Parmar are still underway.

The state government clarified that although the suspension has been revoked, the investigation against Parmar will continue, and further action will be taken if charges are proven.

This move also reflects a clash between the state and the Centre, as Punjab chose to overturn the suspension imposed by the Union Home Ministry.
