Chandigarh: Large parts of Punjab are set to face extended electricity disruptions over the coming days, as the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited rolls out a scheduled maintenance and upgrade plan for its power infrastructure.

According to the official advisory, multiple cities—including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda and Patiala—will experience power cuts lasting between 8 to 10 hours daily until April 26. The outages are part of efforts to strengthen and modernize the electricity distribution network.

The timing of the scheduled shutdowns has raised concerns, as the region is already grappling with soaring temperatures. The weather department has issued a heatwave alert, with mercury levels crossing 35°C in several districts. Authorities fear that the combination of extreme heat and prolonged outages could pose challenges for residents.

Healthcare services have also been put on alert. Hospitals across the state have activated emergency measures, including dedicated wards and round-the-clock staffing, to manage heat-related illnesses.

Detailed Outage Plan

On April 22, several areas in Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, and Bathinda will face power interruptions at different intervals, ranging from four to eight hours depending on the locality. Industrial zones, residential colonies, and rural pockets are all included in the schedule.

The following day, April 23, similar outages will continue across parts of Mohali, Zirakpur, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar, with some areas experiencing disruptions for most of the daytime.

Officials have urged residents to plan their daily activities accordingly and conserve electricity wherever possible. The power utility has maintained that these temporary inconveniences are necessary to ensure a more reliable supply in the future.
