Amritsar: Tensions flared in a village in Amritsar after a group of people allegedly broke into a local power station, forcibly restored electricity supply, and threatened staff on duty, officials said.

The incident took place at a power facility in Wadala Bhitte Wadh village, where a crowd from nearby areas reportedly gathered late at night and forced entry by damaging the main gate. According to employees, the group bypassed official procedures and manually switched on the electricity supply that had been cut as per instructions from higher authorities.

Staff members said they tried to explain that the outage was part of a scheduled or directed power cut, but the crowd refused to listen. Instead, some individuals allegedly tampered with feeder lines to restore power on their own. Officials also claimed that a few members of the group appeared to be under the influence of intoxicants during the incident.

One of the employees present at the time, Surinder Singh, stated that around two dozen people entered the premises and created a hostile situation. He alleged that the staff were verbally abused, pushed around, and even threatened with serious harm.

The episode has left employees shaken, with many expressing concern over their safety, especially during night shifts when security is limited.

Police from the local Kamboh station have registered a complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter. An officer associated with the probe said efforts are underway to identify those involved and assured that appropriate legal action will be taken.

Meanwhile, workers of the Electricity Department have urged authorities to strengthen security arrangements at power stations and ensure protection for on-duty personnel to prevent such incidents in the future.
