Patiala: A shocking incident at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala has triggered outrage and an official inquiry after a street dog was seen carrying a severed head of an infant on the hospital premises.

The disturbing sight was reported near Ward No. 4 around 5:30 p.m., leaving patients and attendants horrified. Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh immediately ordered a probe, directing both hospital authorities and the police to investigate the case from every possible angle.

Hospital medical superintendent Dr. Vishal Chopra said a preliminary check confirmed that no newborn was missing from the facility. “All babies admitted to the wards are accounted for. The three infant deaths recorded recently were handed over to their families with proper documentation,” he clarified. Chopra suggested the possibility that the remains may have been abandoned outside and later brought in by the dog.

Police were alerted soon after the incident was noticed. Superintendent of Police (City) Palwinder Singh Cheema confirmed that the remains belonged to a newborn and have been sent for forensic analysis. “We are examining CCTV footage and verifying whether the remains originated within the hospital or were dumped from outside,” he said.

The incident has sparked alarm over lapses in security and waste management at the government-run hospital. Authorities have assured that strict action will follow once the source of the remains is established.
