Dwarka: Two men wanted in connection with an attempted murder case in southwest Delhi were arrested following a brief exchange of fire with police in the Dwarka area early Sunday, officials said.
The accused, identified as Rocky (22) and Sumit alias Koki (24), were allegedly involved in a violent incident reported on April 17 in the Chhawla locality.
According to investigators, the earlier attack involved two individuals arriving on a motorcycle. One of them reportedly attempted to shoot the complainant at close range, but the firearm failed to discharge, allowing the suspects to escape.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a police team tracked the suspects and intercepted them near Urban Extension Road at around 5:35 am while they were riding a motorcycle.
Police officials said that when asked to surrender, Rocky allegedly fired at the team. A bullet hit the protective vest of a head constable, preventing serious injury. In response, officers fired in self-defence, injuring the accused in the leg before subduing him.
Sumit, who was accompanying him, was also taken into custody at the scene. Authorities recovered a loaded firearm and ammunition from his possession.
The injured suspect was shifted to a hospital for treatment, while both individuals are now in police custody. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the April 17 attack and to identify any possible accomplices.
Security agencies are also examining whether the accused have links to other criminal activities in the region.
