Boney Kapoor Moves Madras High Court Over Dispute on Sridevi’s Chennai Property

Chennai – Film producer Boney Kapoor has approached the Madras High Court, alleging that three individuals have made fraudulent claims over a property in Chennai that belonged to his late wife, actress Sridevi.

Kapoor informed the court that Sridevi had legally purchased the property on April 19, 1988, from M C Sambanda Mudaliar, whose family had already executed a mutual arrangement in 1960 for division of the property. Based on this arrangement, the actress acquired undisputed ownership.

However, Kapoor said three people have now come forward asserting heirship rights. Among them is a woman claiming to be the second wife of one of Mudaliar’s sons, along with her two sons. Kapoor contended that the marriage was invalid, as the man’s first wife passed away only in 1999, long after the alleged second marriage in 1975.

The producer also challenged the jurisdiction of the revenue official who issued a legal heirship certificate to the claimants and sought its cancellation. Hearing the plea, Justice N Anand Venkatesh directed the Tambaram Taluk Tahsildar to take a decision on the matter within four weeks.
