TANDA (Hoshiarpur), April 15, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has given a major development push to the long-neglected Kandi region by launching projects worth ₹150 crore in Tanda Urmur, marking a significant step towards inclusive and balanced growth.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that this initiative is not just about infrastructure development but about correcting decades of neglect faced by the region. He pointed out that for nearly 70 years, the Kandi belt remained deprived of basic facilities due to political discrimination, but the present government is committed to bringing it into the mainstream of development.
Major Push to Roads, Bridges, Water and Healthcare Infrastructure
CM Mann shared that projects worth ₹141.88 crore have been dedicated for the strengthening and upgradation of link roads, which will significantly improve connectivity between villages and nearby towns, boosting local economy and ease of travel.
To facilitate devotees visiting Gurdwara Rampur Khera Sahib, a high-level bridge costing ₹2.39 crore will be constructed, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity even during adverse weather conditions.
In the healthcare sector, Health and Wellness Centres are being established in six villages — Kandhala Sheikh, Rajpur, Dhugga Kalan, Prempur, Giljian and Jahura — to provide accessible primary healthcare services at the grassroots level. Additionally, an Urban Primary Health Centre is being set up at Garhdiwala to cater to urban population needs.
A drinking water supply project worth ₹1.54 crore has also been initiated in Talwandi Daddian village to ensure safe and clean water for residents.
Focus on Education and Healthcare Reforms
Highlighting achievements in education, CM Mann said that Punjab has secured the top position in the National Achievement Survey 2024, reflecting major improvements in the education system.
He added that hundreds of students have successfully cleared competitive exams like JEE and NEET, bringing pride to the state. The government is also establishing 118 Schools of Eminence, out of which 60 are already operational, aimed at nurturing talent based on students’ abilities and interests.
In healthcare, 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics are already operational across Punjab, offering free medicines and diagnostic tests. The government plans to open 400 more clinics to further expand healthcare access.
Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, around 65 lakh families are being provided health cards, enabling cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh per family, ensuring that financial constraints do not delay medical care.
Relief for Farmers and Strengthening Rural Infrastructure
The Chief Minister stated that, for the first time, farmers in Punjab are receiving electricity during daytime, which has significantly improved their daily lives and farming efficiency.
He further noted that the usage of canal water for irrigation has increased from 22% to 71%, with a target to reach 90% in the near future, reducing dependence on groundwater and promoting sustainable agriculture.
The government is also investing heavily in rural infrastructure, including roads, playgrounds and other public facilities, which is transforming the overall landscape of villages.
Attack on Previous Governments, Focus on Governance
Taking a dig at previous governments, CM Mann accused parties like the Akali Dal and Congress of neglecting public welfare and focusing only on their families’ interests.
He said that these parties failed to deliver development and kept the state backward, whereas the current government is working with honesty and transparency.
The Chief Minister asserted that people of Punjab are now aware and support development-oriented politics rather than empty promises.
Commitment to Balanced and Inclusive Growth
Reaffirming his government’s commitment, CM Mann said that the aim is to ensure equal development in every region of Punjab and no area will be left behind.
He emphasised that taxpayers’ money is being used responsibly for public welfare and is being reinvested into roads, schools, hospitals and essential infrastructure.
He concluded by stating that Punjab is on the path to becoming a progressive, self-reliant and prosperous state, where every citizen will have access to better opportunities and quality of life.
