Amritsar: A violent altercation over a pending payment of ₹21,000 for langar (community kitchen) supplies left a father and son injured in the Jandiala Guru area of Amritsar. The victims, identified as Balwinder Singh and his son Gurpreet Singh, were shot inside their home on Baryawal Road after a dispute with a local grocery store owner escalated into gunfire. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, with Balwinder suffering a leg wound and Gurpreet a gunshot to the arm.

According to the victims’ family, the dispute originated from a credit purchase of groceries intended for a langar service. Balwinder Singh stated that they had promised to clear the ₹21,000 debt by April 10 but were unable to meet the deadline. On Monday, the grocery store owner arrived at their residence and forcibly attempted to seize their motorcycle and other household items as collateral. When the family resisted the unauthorized seizure, the store owner allegedly opened fire, discharging four rounds before fleeing the scene as neighbors gathered.

The Jandiala Guru Police, led by SHO Harpal Singh, reached the spot and recorded the statements of the injured duo. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident is a result of a financial dispute combined with existing personal enmity. The police have registered an FIR and formed special teams to apprehend the accused, who remains at large. Authorities emphasized that while the dispute was over money, the use of firearms has turned it into a serious criminal case, and a crackdown on such lawlessness in the district is underway.
