Amritsar Police bust international weapon smuggling ring; three arrested

Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling an international illegal weapon smuggling network with links to Pakistan. During the operation, security forces arrested three individuals and recovered six sophisticated pistols from their possession. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were using social media platforms to coordinate with Pakistan-based smugglers to bring illegal consignments across the border and distribute them to criminal elements active in Punjab.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on X, stating that the gang specialized in procuring cross-border weapon shipments to fuel criminal activities within the state. The recovered weapons were reportedly destined for various local criminal modules as part of a larger strategic supply chain. The police are now focusing on the digital footprint of the accused to identify the handlers operating from abroad and the local recipients who were part of this logistics network.

A formal FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar. Authorities have emphasized that this crackdown is part of a broader initiative to eradicate organized crime and weapon smuggling in the border state. Technical and intelligence agencies are currently collaborating to trace the backward and forward linkages of the network, with more arrests expected as the investigation progresses.
