New Delhi: A new chapter may soon unfold in Indian cricket as teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is reportedly being considered for his maiden call-up to the senior national team. The 15-year-old, who has captured attention with his fearless performances, is understood to be among the shortlisted players for India’s upcoming tour of Ireland.

Sources indicate that the selection panel, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is likely to field a relatively young squad for the Ireland series. The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to assess bench strength and groom emerging talent ahead of a packed international calendar.

If picked in the final squad and handed a debut, Sooryavanshi could surpass the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at 16 years and 205 days. Across Indian cricket, the youngest debut record is currently held by Shafali Verma, who represented the women’s team at just over 15 years of age.

The young batter’s meteoric rise has been fuelled by his standout performances in the Indian Premier League, where he impressed both fans and experts with his composure and attacking stroke play. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with several former and current cricketing figures backing his elevation to the national side.

Arun Dhumal publicly endorsed the youngster, suggesting that talents like Sooryavanshi deserve early exposure at the highest level. Former India stars such as Irfan Pathan and Anil Kumble have also echoed similar sentiments, stating that the teenager appears mentally and technically prepared for international cricket.

The Ireland tour is expected to serve as a testing ground for India’s next generation, especially with senior players likely to be rested. However, the experienced core is expected to return for the subsequent tour of England, where India will play a series of T20Is and ODIs starting July 1.

While an official announcement is still awaited, the possibility of Sooryavanshi’s inclusion has already sparked excitement among fans. If selected, the teenager would not only mark a personal milestone but also signal a bold shift in India’s approach towards nurturing young cricketing talent.
