Dehradun: A criminal case has been registered against Haryanvi folk singer Masoom Sharma following allegations of inappropriate conduct during a cultural programme in Dehradun.

According to police officials, the incident took place on April 10 at DAV (PG) College, where the singer was performing at a public event. A complaint filed by a student, Pranchal Nauni, accused the artist of using objectionable language from the stage, which allegedly hurt the sentiments of those present at the programme.

Acting on the complaint, the police at Dalanwala Police Station registered a First Information Report under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include sections related to obscene acts and songs, intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of peace, acts insulting the modesty of a woman, and criminal intimidation.

Authorities confirmed that the case is under investigation and assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings. Officials also stated that statements from witnesses and event organisers are being recorded as part of the inquiry.

The development has sparked discussions around accountability and conduct during public performances, particularly at educational institutions. Further action in the case will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
