Mumbai: Mumbai will witness an emotional farewell on Monday as legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle is laid to rest with full state honours at Shivaji Park. The iconic artist, who left an indelible mark on Indian music for over seven decades, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.

According to officials, the final rites will take place at 4 pm, with arrangements made by the Maharashtra government to honour her immense contribution to the cultural landscape of the country. Prior to the cremation, admirers, colleagues, and members of the public will be able to pay their last respects at her residence in Lower Parel from late morning.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited her home on Sunday evening, offering floral tributes and expressing condolences to the grieving family. Several other leaders, including Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, also paid homage, highlighting her unmatched legacy in Indian music.

The veteran singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day before her passing, where doctors confirmed that she succumbed to multiple organ failure. Her death marks the end of an extraordinary era in Indian cinema and music.

Her son, Anand Bhosle, shared details of the final arrangements, stating that the public would be allowed to gather and honour her memory before the last rites are conducted. Fans from across the country are expected to assemble in large numbers to bid a final goodbye to the beloved singer, fondly known as ‘Ashatai’.

A recipient of prestigious honours including the Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan, Asha Bhosle’s voice defined generations of music lovers. As Mumbai prepares to host her final journey, the occasion is set to be both a solemn tribute and a celebration of a life devoted to melody.
