Pathankot: Continuous rainfall in Punjab has worsened conditions across several areas. In Pathankot, the old closed bridge at Chakki Khad on the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway collapsed after being engulfed by strong currents. Authorities also opened the floodgates of the Ranjit Sagar Dam as water levels rose dangerously.
Amid these developments, a tragic incident shook the region today. In Dhar block of semi-hilly Pathankot, incessant rainfall claimed the life of a young child. A six-year-old boy, Sahil, from Dhangoo Surah village in the Dhar Kalan area, was swept away by the gushing waters.
According to locals, Sahil had stepped out to watch the raging waters of Dhangoo Surah Khad, located barely 100 meters from his house near Begumpura Dham. Fascinated by the roaring stream, he stood at the edge when the soil beneath him gave way. He slipped and was dragged away by the fierce current.
Villagers immediately rushed to save him, chasing the flow downstream in desperate attempts to rescue the boy. After half a kilometer, Sahil was found trapped in bushes along the stream. He was rushed to a private hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The tragedy has left the entire village in mourning. Sahilโs father, who had gone on the Mani Mahesh Yatra to pray for the familyโs prosperity, returned to the heartbreaking news of losing his son. Meanwhile, the childโs mother has been inconsolable since the incident.
