Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that any country supplying military weapons to Iran will face immediate tariffs of up to 50 percent, with no exemptions.
The warning came through a social media post a day after Washington agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Tehran, indicating a mix of pressure and diplomacy in the United States’ approach toward Iran.
Trump also signalled a possible thaw in relations, stating that the United States would engage with Iran on tariff and sanctions relief. He added that discussions were underway following what he described as a “regime change” in Iran.
“We are, and will be, talking tariff and sanctions relief with Iran,” Trump said, suggesting a potential shift toward negotiations alongside economic measures.
The U.S. President further claimed that Iran would not pursue uranium enrichment and that several points from a proposed American framework had already been accepted by Tehran.
The developments come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with global attention focused on whether the ceasefire will hold and lead to a more permanent resolution.
