New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the Phase-2 expansion of the Jaipur Metro project, a 41-kilometre corridor with 36 stations, at a total cost of over ₹13,000 crore.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the project will be implemented by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture between the central government and the Government of Rajasthan.

The approved corridor will run along the North-South axis, connecting Prahladpura to Todi Mod, with an estimated project cost of ₹13,037.66 crore. The expansion aims to significantly enhance urban mobility in Jaipur by linking key residential, industrial, and commercial hubs.

According to officials, the new metro line will provide seamless connectivity to major areas such as Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital and Stadium, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar.

The project will also include underground stations in the airport zone and will be integrated with the existing Phase-1 network through interchanges and feeder systems. This is expected to create a unified and efficient metro network across the city.

The approval marks a major step in strengthening public transport infrastructure in Jaipur and is expected to ease traffic congestion while supporting economic growth in the region.
