Sydney: Former Australia opener David Warner was taken into custody on Tuesday after allegedly driving under the influence in Sydney, according to local reports.

The incident occurred in the Maroubra area, where police stopped Warner’s vehicle during a routine breath-testing operation. Authorities reportedly intercepted the cricketer before he reached the designated checkpoint on Malabar Road and conducted an initial test, which indicated alcohol consumption above the permitted limit.

He was then escorted to a nearby police station for further examination, where a second test reportedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.104—well beyond the legal threshold. Following the procedure, Warner was released but is expected to appear in court next month in connection with the case.

Despite the legal issue, the development is unlikely to affect Warner’s participation in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2026 season. The 39-year-old is currently leading Karachi Kings and is scheduled to rejoin the squad ahead of their upcoming fixture against Peshawar Zalmi.

Warner had been in Sydney on a short personal break during a gap between matches. Under his leadership, Karachi Kings have made a strong start to the season and currently sit near the top of the points table.

So far in the tournament, Warner has contributed with the bat, scoring 93 runs in three outings, including a half-century.
