Air India Chief Campbell Wilson Steps Down Amid Leadership Transition

New Delhi: Campbell Wilson has resigned as the Chief Executive Officer of Air India, according to sources familiar with the development, marking a significant shift in leadership at the Tata Group-owned carrier.

Wilson, who took charge in July 2022 after the airline’s acquisition by the Tata Group, is understood to have conveyed his decision to step down to the board before formally submitting his resignation. The airline, however, has not yet issued an official statement confirming the move.

His appointment had followed an earlier leadership change when Ilker Ayci declined the top role amid controversy in March 2022.

Sources indicate that discussions around succession planning had been underway, with the group reportedly exploring leadership options even as Wilson’s tenure was originally expected to run until 2027.

The development comes at a time when key leadership roles within the airline group remain unsettled. At Air India Express, the managing director’s position has been vacant since the exit of Alok Singh last month after completing his term.

Wilson’s tenure also saw heightened scrutiny following a major aviation incident last year involving a London-bound flight, which had a significant impact on the airline’s operations and public perception.

With the CEO’s exit, attention now turns to the Tata Group’s next move as it looks to stabilise leadership and continue its efforts to transform the national carrier.
