Jerusalem: The Uttar Pradesh government confirmed on Sunday, April 5, 2026, that over 6,000 workers from the state currently employed in Israel are safe despite the ongoing regional conflict. Principal Secretary of the Labour and Employment Department, Shanmuga Sundaram, remains in continuous coordination with the Indian Embassy in Israel to track the well-being of these nationals. According to official statements, there have been no reports of emergencies or major threats to Indian workers, and the state is acting on direct instructions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure their security remains a top priority.

India’s Ambassador to Israel, J.P. Singh, has provided periodic updates throughout March and early April, consistently affirming the safety of the Indian diaspora. While the prevailing atmosphere of hostilities has caused natural concern, officials noted that there has been no significant pressure or large-scale demand from the workers to return to India immediately. Life for many continues with a semblance of normalcy, with some workers from Uttar Pradesh even hosting visiting Indian journalists recently. The embassy’s First Secretary, Dr. Garika Tejeshwar, also reiterated that no untoward incidents involving state residents have occurred.

Although most workers are adhering to local safety advisories and remaining at their posts, the government has facilitated the voluntary return of some traders and students via Jordan. Shanmuga Sundaram stated that similar evacuation or travel arrangements can be mobilized for workers should the need arise. The embassy’s control room has not received any serious distress calls, and a multi-language helpline operated by Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority remains active to assist with any immediate grievances. The Uttar Pradesh government has assured all workers that it stands ready to facilitate their return if they choose to leave.
