Barnala: In a major crackdown on organised crime, Barnala Police arrested four close aides of the notorious Devinder Bambiha gang while they were allegedly plotting a major robbery. The accused have been identified as Satnam Singh alias Satti, Gurpreet alias Guri, Sarm Singh alias Rinku, and Deepak Singh.

According to officials, the arrests were made during a naka checking operation. When intercepted, the gang members reportedly opened fire at the police team. Swift action by the personnel, however, overpowered the shooters and led to their capture along with their vehicle.

Police recovered four weapons from the suspects, including a Zigana pistol, three pistols of .30 and .32 bore, along with a cache of live cartridges.

Investigations have revealed that Satnam Singh is a repeat offender with more than 22 criminal cases registered against him, including charges of murder, attempted murder, violations of the Arms Act, and narcotics cases. His associates, Sarm Singh and Deepak Singh, are also said to have links with the drug trade.

Punjab DGP, while confirming the arrests on social media, called it a “significant breakthrough” in efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks in the state. He added that interrogation of the accused is ongoing and more revelations are expected in the coming days.

Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security by targeting gangster outfits and curbing the spread of organised crime in Punjab.
