Ganderbal: Security forces eliminated a militant during an overnight encounter in Ganderbal, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The operation began late Tuesday night in the Arhama area after intelligence inputs indicated suspicious movement in the region. Acting on the information, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to officials, troops conducting the search noticed unusual activity during the cordon operation. When challenged, the suspected militants opened fire, prompting security personnel to retaliate. A brief exchange of gunfire followed, during which one militant was killed.
The Army stated that the cordon was tactically adjusted during intermittent firing, allowing forces to maintain control of the situation while continuing their operation in a calibrated manner.
The encounter is part of ongoing counter-terror efforts in the region. Officials added that the operation has not yet concluded, and search efforts are continuing to ensure the area is fully secured.
Further details, including the identity and affiliation of the slain militant, are expected to be released after the completion of the operation.
