Bengaluru: A tragic double suicide involving a software engineer couple has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru’s Kothanur area. On Monday, March 30, 2026, 32-year-old Bhanu Chander Reddy Kunta and his 31-year-old wife, Shazia, both residents of a high-rise apartment, were found dead within minutes of each other. Bhanu Chander worked as a software engineer, while Shazia was an employee at IBM. The couple, originally from Siddipet in Telangana, had been married for nine years following a long-term live-in relationship.
The grim sequence of events began when Shazia sought help from security guards and neighbours after her husband failed to respond to repeated knocks on their bedroom door. Upon breaking the door open, they discovered Bhanu Chander’s body hanging from the ceiling. In a state of extreme distress, Shazia reportedly rushed out of the flat shortly after the discovery and jumped to her death from the 17th floor of the same apartment building. Police recovered a suicide note left by Bhanu Chander, in which he cited deteriorating health conditions as the reason for his step and requested that no one be held responsible for his death.
Preliminary investigations by the Bengaluru Police suggest the couple had a history of domestic discord despite their long association. While the families were reportedly unaware of the extent of their marital strain, authorities are now examining the “health issues” mentioned in the note alongside potential financial or psychological pressures. A case has been registered at the Kothanur police station, and investigators are awaiting post-mortem reports to reconstruct the final moments leading to the tragedy.
