Kuwait: An Indian national lost his life after a key power and water desalination facility in Kuwait was hit during what authorities described as an Iranian strike, adding a new layer of concern to the already volatile situation in West Asia.
According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the attack targeted a service building within the facility, causing extensive structural damage. The deceased worker, identified as an Indian employee at the site, was caught in the impact. Officials confirmed that the strike resulted in “significant material damage” to the infrastructure.
Emergency and technical response teams were deployed immediately after the incident. Authorities said contingency protocols were activated to contain the damage and ensure that essential services, particularly electricity and water supply, continue without major disruption. The response was coordinated with national security agencies to secure the affected area and prevent further risks.
The ministry also appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information, assuring that updates would be communicated transparently as the situation evolves. Officials reiterated that maintaining stability in critical utilities remains a top priority, with teams working continuously to manage any potential fallout.
The incident comes amid intensifying regional tensions involving Iran and Israel, with fears of the conflict spilling over into neighboring countries.
In a separate development, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon reported that one of its peacekeepers was killed and another seriously injured after a projectile struck a UN position in southern Lebanon. The origin of the strike remains unclear, and an investigation is underway.
The UN mission condemned the incident, calling it a tragic loss and stressing that personnel serving peacekeeping roles must be protected under international law. It warned that attacks on peacekeepers could constitute serious violations, potentially amounting to war crimes.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said its troops carried out operations in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah operatives allegedly preparing attacks. The military also reported uncovering a cache of weapons, including anti-tank missiles and explosives, believed to be intended for use against Israeli forces.
With multiple flashpoints emerging across the region, concerns are growing over a broader escalation that could draw in more countries and threaten critical infrastructure as well as civilian lives.
