Chandigarh: Unstable weather conditions are set to continue across large parts of northwest India this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in several regions. The forecast indicates that changing atmospheric patterns could bring significant weather activity, affecting both plains and hilly areas.

According to the IMD, widespread rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is expected over the region, particularly between March 29 and March 30. Hailstorms are also likely in parts of northwestern and central India, raising concerns among farmers and residents alike.

In the higher reaches, including Kashmir Valley, heavy rain and snowfall are predicted on March 30. The department has also indicated that another western disturbance may impact the region from April 2, bringing fresh spells of snow and rain to Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Beyond the northwest, weather activity is expected to intensify in eastern and northeastern parts of the country. The IMD has forecast scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in these areas, with isolated heavy showers likely between March 30 and April 1. Southern peninsular India is also expected to witness intermittent rain along with thunderstorms during the week.

Recent observations show fluctuating temperatures across the country. While Akola recorded a high of 41.2°C, Najibabad experienced a comparatively cooler minimum of 15.6°C. In New Delhi, temperatures have risen slightly, with daytime readings hovering between 32°C and 34°C.

The shifting weather has prompted advisories for the agricultural sector. Farmers in vulnerable regions have been urged to take preventive steps, such as using protective nets in orchards and harvesting mature crops early to minimise losses due to hail and strong winds.

Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather system closely, advising residents to stay updated with forecasts and take necessary precautions as conditions remain unpredictable.
