Cloud Cover Persists Over Delhi as IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms

Delhi: Residents of New Delhi woke up to a relatively mild morning on Saturday, with the minimum temperature settling at 18.8 degrees Celsius—slightly above the seasonal average. Despite no rainfall being recorded in the early hours, overcast skies are expected to dominate the day.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the city is likely to witness a spell of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds later in the day. Wind speeds could range between 30 and 40 kmph, prompting the weather agency to issue a yellow alert as a precaution.

Meteorologists noted that the current pattern of cloudy conditions and intermittent rain during March is unusual but can be attributed to a series of western disturbances impacting northwestern parts of the country. These systems have been influencing weather conditions across the region, leading to fluctuations in temperature and increased cloud activity.

The minimum temperature recorded was marginally higher than normal, though it marked a drop compared to the previous day, offering some respite from rising heat levels.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and lightning, especially while outdoors, as weather conditions may change rapidly over the course of the day.
