New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to all states, urging them to reserve 20 per cent of government jobs for Agniveers to support their rehabilitation after completing their four-year service term in 2027.

The communication, addressed to Chief Ministers, was confirmed by Madan Sheel Sharma, Director of the Sainik Welfare Department. Following the directive, several states have begun examining the proposal.

The Centre has recommended that the reservation be implemented across various uniformed and support roles, including forest guards, mining guards, police constables, firemen, mounted police, jail wardens, Special Police Officers, and personnel in the State Disaster Response Force.

Among states, Haryana has already taken the lead by implementing reservations for Agniveers in uniformed services and certain Group C posts. Uttarakhand has also announced similar provisions in police and related services.

The move is part of a broader effort by the Centre to ensure post-service employment opportunities for Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme, aiming to integrate trained personnel into civilian roles while leveraging their skills and discipline.
