Chandigarh/Ludhiana: In a major push towards rural infrastructure and public service delivery, the Punjab Government has approved projects worth Rs.23.99 crore for Sahnewal in Ludhiana district, covering a mega sewerage scheme for historic Sri Bhaini Sahib village and construction of a modern Sub-Tehsil Complex at Sahnewal.

Divulging further details, Cabinet Minister and Sahnewal MLA S. Hardeep Singh Mundian informed that a sewerage project worth Rs.13.36 crore has been sanctioned for Sri Bhaini Sahib village. The project envisages laying of 1.80 km main or intercepting sewer and 18.13 km lateral sewer network along with 670 household connections. It also includes construction of a main pumping station and installation of a 1.0 MLD capacity Sewage Treatment Plant.

The demand for the project was raised jointly by the Village Panchayat and Sri Bhaini Sahib Sect Management Committee, seeking a new sewer network and water supply infrastructure in view of rising population and outdated facilities. Taking prompt note, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian along with senior officers had visited the village on January 9, 2026, where it was highlighted that the existing sewer system laid in 2001-02 has outlived its utility and the village lacked any treatment facility.

Meanwhile, in another significant decision, the Punjab government has approved Rs.10.64 crore for construction of a new Sub-Tehsil Complex at Sahnewal. the new complex will provide hassle-free access to revenue and administrative services for residents of Sahnewal and adjoining areas, eliminating the need for frequent travel to Ludhiana.

Hardeep Singh Mundian expressed gratitude to Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann for according approval to both projects, stating that these initiatives will give a major boost to development in the Sahnewal constituency and enhance ease of governance at the grassroots level. He reiterated that the Punjab Government is consistently working towards strengthening rural and semi-urban infrastructure while ensuring better civic amenities and administrative outreach across the state.
