Dry Spell Continues in Punjab, Temperatures Near Normal; Thunderstorm Alert Issued for March 26

Chandigarh: Weather conditions across Punjab and Chandigarh remained dry on Monday, with rising temperatures inching closer to seasonal averages under clear skies and strong sunshine.

According to the India Meteorological Department, no immediate weather warnings are in place for the day, and dry conditions are expected to persist. However, authorities have issued a ‘yellow alert’ for March 26, cautioning residents about the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.

Over the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures have risen slightly, with several locations touching or nearing the 30°C mark. Rupnagar recorded one of the highest temperatures at around 30°C, while Chandigarh saw readings close to 29°C.

Meteorologists attribute the current weather pattern to changing atmospheric conditions influenced by systems developing near Jammu and adjoining regions, along with high-speed winds in the upper atmosphere. These factors are expected to trigger a shift in weather beginning March 26, followed by another change around March 29, which could bring rainfall and storm activity to parts of the state.

Across Punjab, most districts reported daytime temperatures above 25°C, reflecting a steady warming trend. Experts suggest that temperatures may rise further by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next few days before stabilising.

Officials have advised residents to stay updated on weather forecasts, especially ahead of the expected change later this week, as intermittent rain and strong winds could impact daily activities.
