Hyderabad Woman Doctor Dies by Suicide Over Dispute Regarding Pet Cat

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old MBBS graduate allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad’s Alwal area on Friday after her family members objected to her keeping a pet cat. The victim, who was preparing for higher studies, had reportedly been raising the cat for the past three months. Police stated that the young doctor ended her life by hanging at her residence following a disagreement with her parents over the animal’s presence in the house.

This tragic event follows a similar incident in the city earlier this week. On March 18, a 20-year-old first-year B.Sc student, identified as Hima Bindu, took her own life in the Meerpet area. In that case, the student was reportedly devastated by the sudden death of her Persian pet cat, which she had raised for two years. According to police, she consumed a pesticide within minutes of discovering the cat had died of natural causes.

The Alwal police have registered a case regarding the doctor’s death and are currently conducting a further investigation. These back-to-back incidents have highlighted the intense emotional bonds people form with their pets and the severe mental health crises that can arise from pet-related grief or domestic conflicts over animal companionship.
