Panipat: A major road accident involving around 15 vehicles occurred on a flyover along NH-44 in Panipat on Saturday morning, leaving nearly 10 people injured and causing significant traffic disruption.
The collision, which involved trucks and passenger vehicles, is believed to have been triggered by dense fog and poor visibility following recent rainfall in the region. According to initial reports, a truck had been stationed on the flyover near Sewah village due to a mechanical issue.
With visibility severely reduced, a vehicle approaching from behind reportedly failed to notice the stationary truck and crashed into it. This led to a chain reaction, with multiple vehicles piling into each other within moments.
Among the injured were men, women and children, all of whom were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable.
The accident brought traffic on the busy highway stretch to a standstill for more than two hours, with long queues forming both on the flyover and adjoining city roads. Commuters faced considerable delays as authorities worked to clear the site.
Police teams quickly reached the scene and, with the assistance of cranes, began removing the damaged vehicles to restore normal traffic flow. As a precautionary measure, traffic was temporarily diverted through city routes to ease congestion.
Officials have urged motorists to exercise caution while driving in foggy conditions, particularly on high-speed corridors like NH-44, where low visibility can lead to sudden and dangerous situations.
