Comprehensive Help for Women in Distress Across the State

Chandigarh: Reaffirming its strong commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of women, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken significant steps to strengthen support systems for women facing violence and distress. As part of these efforts, a total of 17,651 women have been provided free and integrated support through One Stop Centres across the state from the financial year 2022–23 to 2025–26.

Disclosing this, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that these centres provide immediate and coordinated assistance to women in need under one roof. The services include medical aid, legal assistance, police facilitation, counselling, temporary shelter and food.

Sharing year-wise data, the Minister informed that 3,592 women were assisted during 2022–23, 3,633 during 2023–24, 5,305 during 2024–25, and 5,121 during 2025–26. She stated that the increasing numbers reflect the expanding outreach of the government and growing trust among women.

Dr. Baljit Kaur said, “These are not just numbers, but stories of courage and hope. Women who once faced fear and injustice are now rebuilding their lives with dignity and confidence. One Stop Centres have emerged not merely as service points, but as strong pillars of support, ensuring safety, trust and empowerment.”

She further added that One Stop Centres have been established in all districts of Punjab to ensure that no woman is left without support in times of need. The Minister also urged that every woman should be aware of the Women Helpline number 181 (toll- free)and emphasized the need for its wide publicity so that timely assistance can be ensured during emergencies. She described the helpline as a vital link of safety, support and trust for women in distress.
