New Delhi: In a fresh security lapse at the nation’s highest legislative complex, a man was apprehended early Friday morning while attempting to scale the wall of the Parliament in New Delhi.
According to Delhi Police, the incident occurred at around 6:00 AM when security personnel spotted the individual trying to climb the boundary wall. The man also attempted to jump inside the premises but was quickly restrained before he could gain entry.
Confirming the development, a Rajya Sabha official stated, “One man tried to enter the building in an unauthorized manner at 6 AM today. He has been caught.” The intruder is currently in police custody, and an investigation into his motives is underway.
This attempted breach comes less than two years after the shocking intrusion inside the Lok Sabha chamber on December 13, 2023, the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. On that occasion, two men, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, had leapt from the visitors’ gallery into the House during Zero Hour, releasing yellow gas canisters and raising slogans. Simultaneously, two others, Amol Dhanraj Shinde and Neelam Azad, released colored smoke outside the Parliament complex while chanting protest slogans.
Subsequent investigations had led to the arrest of six people in connection with the coordinated act. While granting bail to some of the accused, the Delhi High Court had imposed strict restrictions, including prohibiting them from addressing the media, posting content about the incident online, or leaving Delhi NCR without prior permission.
Friday’s intrusion attempt has once again raised concerns about Parliament’s security, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance, particularly given the past episodes that rattled the nation.
Police officials said further details will be shared once the interrogation of the man is completed.
