New Delhi: The BCCI announced on Tuesday a record cash reward of Rs 131 crore for the Indian cricket team following its triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking India’s third title in the tournament’s history.

The payout covers 15 players, coaching staff, and other support personnel, with players set to receive the largest share. The distribution for support staff will be determined according to hierarchy and roles, sources said. This reward is Rs 6 crore higher than the Rs 125 crore awarded to Rohit Sharma’s squad after the 2024 edition.

“The Board congratulates the players, support staff, and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” said Devajit Saikia, BCCI secretary, in an official statement.

India clinched the title after a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. With this win, India became the first team in T20 World Cup history to successfully defend the trophy and also the first to win the championship three times, solidifying its dominance in the format.

The record prize not only celebrates the players’ exceptional performance but also acknowledges the collective efforts of the coaching and support staff that contributed to India’s historic run in the tournament.
