AMRITSAR — In a chilling incident that has stunned the community of Banna village in the Jandiala Guru constituency, a young woman was allegedly murdered by her husband on Saturday, barely a month after their wedding. Initial reports suggest that a heated verbal altercation between the couple escalated rapidly, leading the husband to produce a firearm and shoot his wife, resulting in her immediate death at the scene.
Upon being alerted to the gunfire, local police units arrived promptly at the residence to secure the area and initiate a formal inquiry. The victim’s body has been taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death. Officers have been stationed at the village to gather witness testimonies from neighbours and relatives who might have heard the dispute prior to the fatal shot.
The grieving maternal family of the deceased has levelled serious allegations of torture and harassment against the husband and his relatives. They claimed that their daughter was being mistreated almost from the first week of the marriage. The distraught parents expressed their heartbreak, stating that they had not even finished the traditional post-wedding ceremonies before they were forced to see their daughter’s lifeless body. They maintain that the suspect and his family were pressuring the woman and creating a hostile environment within the household.
Senior police officials have confirmed that a formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered based on the complaints filed by the victim’s parents. A manhunt has been launched to locate and arrest the husband and any other family members who may be implicated in the crime. Authorities stated that the investigation is being conducted with a focus on all possible motives, including domestic abuse and pre-planned violence, to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
