Ahmedabad: Hotel prices in Ahmedabad have surged dramatically as cricket fans flock to the city ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final between India national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team scheduled for Sunday.
The title clash will be played at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium, one of the largest cricket venues in the world. With thousands of supporters expected to arrive from across India and overseas, the demand for accommodation has pushed room tariffs to extraordinary levels.
Hospitality industry sources say even budget hotels are charging far more than usual due to the spike in bookings. Reports indicate that some economy hotels are quoting rates close to ₹15,000 per night, while luxury properties are demanding between ₹56,000 and ₹80,000 for a single night. In a few cases, premium suites are expected to cross the ₹1 lakh mark as the match day approaches.
The final has generated massive excitement as it will be the second time in under a year that the two teams will meet in the final of a major ICC white-ball event. They last faced off in the summit clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 held in Dubai.
A victory for India would mark a historic achievement. The team could become the first side to successfully defend the men’s T20 World Cup title and also secure a record third triumph in the tournament’s history. It would additionally be the first instance of a team lifting the T20 World Cup trophy on home soil.
New Zealand, meanwhile, are aiming to win their maiden T20 World Cup. Their best performance in the tournament so far came in 2022 when they finished runners-up to Australia.
Narendra Somani, president of the Gujarat Hotels and Restaurants Association, said demand for rooms rose sharply after India’s semi-final win over England, prompting many hotels to revise their tariffs. Sanjeev Chhajer of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that the high-profile sporting event is expected to bring significant economic activity for the city’s hospitality and tourism sectors.
With the final just days away, Ahmedabad is preparing for a massive influx of cricket enthusiasts eager to witness what could be a historic night in Indian cricket.
