LPG Cylinder Prices Hike: Domestic LPG Up Rs 60, Commercial Cylinders Costlier Amid Global Energy Surge

New Delhi: Household cooking gas and commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased across India, with domestic cylinders becoming costlier by ₹60 and commercial cylinders seeing a hike of Rs 114.5, according to revised rates released on Saturday.

Data from Indian Oil Corporation shows that the price of a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder in New Delhi has risen to Rs 913 from the previous Rs 853. The revised prices came into effect on March 7.

Industry officials attributed the increase to rising international energy costs triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has pushed up global fuel prices in recent weeks.

The latest revision marks the second increase in domestic LPG rates in less than a year. The last price hike occurred in April last year, when the cost of a household cylinder was raised by Rs 50.

Prices vary across major cities due to differences in local taxes. Following the revision, a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder now costs Rs 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs 939 in Kolkata and Rs 928.50 in Chennai.

However, beneficiaries of the government’s flagship cooking gas initiative, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, will continue receiving a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder for up to 12 refills annually. The scheme currently supports more than 10 crore low-income households across the country.

Meanwhile, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder — commonly used by hotels, restaurants and other businesses — has been raised by Rs 114.5, taking the cost in Delhi to Rs 1,883. This follows another increase of Rs 28 earlier in the month.

With the latest revision, commercial LPG prices have climbed by Rs 302.50 so far this year, adding to operational costs for food and hospitality businesses.

Despite the hike, industry sources maintain that cooking gas prices in India remain lower compared with several neighbouring countries. However, the recent increase is expected to add pressure on household budgets as well as small businesses that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.
