FORT NELSON, BC — A tragic road accident in Canada’s British Columbia province has claimed the lives of two Punjabi youths, sending shockwaves through their hometowns in the Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, March 4, 2026, on Highway 97, widely known as the Alaska Highway, near the town of Fort Nelson. The victims have been identified as 32-year-old Talwinder Singh Gill, a resident of Mari Gaur Singh village in Bhikhiwind, and approximately 30-year-old Jajbir Singh, a resident of Alowal village in Verowal.

According to reports from local authorities, the two men were on duty and operating a heavy-duty truck when the vehicle suddenly veered out of control. The truck skidded off the road and plunged into a deep ravine, resulting in its complete destruction. The impact of the fall was so severe that both individuals were pinned inside the mangled remains of the cabin. Local emergency services and rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the alert, but despite their intensive efforts to extricate the passengers, both Talwinder and Jajbir were pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

News of the tragedy reached their families in Punjab on Thursday, leading to a wave of mourning in the villages of Mari Gaur Singh and Alowal. Relatives and neighbours have gathered at the victims’ homes to offer condolences to the grieving families. The local community in British Columbia is also mourning the loss of the two hardworking professionals. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is currently investigating the cause of the accident to determine whether mechanical failure or weather conditions on the rugged Alaska Highway contributed to the fatal plunge.
