New Delhi: The West Indies cricket team will remain in India longer than expected after international flight routes were altered due to airspace restrictions linked to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
The Caribbean side had been preparing to depart following their elimination from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. However, security concerns in parts of the Gulf region have forced airlines to reroute or suspend services, delaying the team’s journey home.
In a statement, Cricket West Indies said the disruptions stem from precautionary aviation measures introduced amid heightened military activity. Several international carriers have revised schedules as a safety measure, affecting multiple long-haul connections.
The board confirmed it is coordinating with the International Cricket Council, relevant government agencies, and airline partners to arrange the earliest secure travel option for players and support personnel. Officials emphasized that the welfare of the squad remains the top priority.
Team members are currently staying in India under secure arrangements and are reported to be safe. Cricket West Indies added that it continues to assess developments and will announce updated travel plans once confirmed.
