Chandigarh: With tensions mounting across parts of the Middle East, the Punjab government has opened a 24×7 emergency helpline to assist residents stranded in conflict-hit countries and to support their families back home.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the move on Monday, saying the state administration is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Centre to ensure the safe return of affected citizens.

Dedicated Control Room Activated

According to an official statement, a round-the-clock control room has been set up to respond swiftly to distress calls. Families seeking information or assistance can contact the following numbers:

  • 0172-2260042

  • 0172-2260043

  • WhatsApp: +91 94787 79112

“The ongoing conflict in certain Arab nations has created serious hardships for many Punjabis living and working there. We have established a dedicated helpline so that no family feels helpless during this difficult time,” Mann said.

Coordination With Centre

The Chief Minister stated that the Punjab government is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and other central agencies to facilitate evacuation efforts. He stressed that the state would extend full cooperation to ensure that stranded individuals, including students and workers, are brought home safely and without delay.

Punjab has a significant diaspora presence in Gulf nations, particularly among skilled workers and students. The escalation of violence in parts of the region has disrupted transportation and raised safety concerns.

Appeal for Swift Action

Mann also urged the Union Government to act promptly to safeguard Indian nationals in affected areas. “Immediate and decisive intervention is essential to secure the safe evacuation of our people. Punjab stands ready to assist in every possible way,” he said.

Families across the state have expressed anxiety as reports of unrest continue to emerge. The state administration has assured them that their concerns are being addressed on priority and that every effort is being made to coordinate rescue and repatriation measures.

Officials said updates will be shared as the situation develops, with the helpline remaining operational around the clock to handle emergencies and provide verified information.
