Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the central government, is the first to ensure that farmers affected by crop losses due to natural disasters receive full compensation directly in their bank accounts. Emulating this model, the state government is also providing timely compensation to its farmers to safeguard their livelihoods.

The Chief Minister said this while responding to a question raised by MLA Balram Dangi during the ongoing session of the state Vidhan Sabha here today. He further shared that the government has disbursed approximately Rs. 6.5 crore as compensation to farmers in the villages of the Meham Assembly constituency.

Taking a dig at the opposition, the Chief Minister said that under Congress rule, the patwari would sit in the village chaupal and note down the names of a few farmers, leaving the rest waiting in hope. That was the system during their time, he added. In contrast, the present government has defined clear responsibilities for patwaris and is holding them accountable

Nayab Singh Saini informed the House that patwaris are now required to submit written reports to the government whenever a farmer’s crop is damaged. Moreover, separate slabs have been created for compensation, and the government is ensuring that full compensation reaches the farmers.

The Chief Minister emphasized that if anyone is at fault, action will be taken against them, and if any farmer has been left out, the compensation will still be delivered to them.
