Chandigarh / Amritsar, February 22, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab chief spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Sunday targeted the leadership of the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleging that Sukhbir Singh Badal is following a pattern of “double politics” similar to that of his father, Parkash Singh Badal. He claimed that repetitive speeches and fresh promises are being used to mislead the people of Punjab.

Addressing a press conference in Amritsar, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that before making tall claims about eliminating gangsterism, Sukhbir Singh Badal should respond to questions regarding his party’s past record. He alleged that on one hand, individuals linked to those with criminal backgrounds have been fielded as candidates, while on the other hand, statements are being made about wiping out gangster networks.

Referring to elections in Tarn Taran, Dhaliwal claimed that the Akali Dal had openly sought support from individuals allegedly associated with criminal backgrounds. He remarked that while the party now speaks of demolishing the houses of gangsters, it had previously been seen attending their social events and supporting their relatives as candidates. “Punjab remembers everything,” he said.

Drawing parallels with the 2007–2017 Akali-BJP tenure, Dhaliwal alleged that organized gangsterism and the drug menace deepened during that period. He questioned the moral authority of those who were in power at the time to now lecture the current government on law and order.

Expressing concern over the functioning of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Dhaliwal raised questions about missing copies (saroops) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, land transactions and alleged financial mismanagement. He said the community deserves transparency and accountability on matters related to religious institutions.

Dhaliwal further claimed that from Majha to Malwa, several traditional Akali families have distanced themselves from the party. According to him, the party has been reduced to limited leadership control and is attempting to survive by inducting individuals with controversial backgrounds.

The AAP MLA also alleged that Sukhbir Singh Badal has remained silent on key national issues, including farmers’ concerns and the India-US trade agreement. He stated that despite being in alliance and sharing power at the Centre for years, the Akali leadership did not strongly question the BJP leadership on such matters.

Concluding his address, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that the people of Punjab are politically aware and cannot be misled by dramatic speeches. He asserted that one cannot create fear, allegedly patronize criminal elements and later promise to eliminate them. “Punjab knows your character. Before making new announcements, answer for past actions,” he said.
