Katwa: A fire broke out in a vacant passenger train coach stationed at Katwa railway station in the early hours of Sunday, triggering brief panic but resulting in no injuries, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred around 4:30 am in a compartment of the Katwa–Azimganj passenger train, which was standing at platform number two. According to an official from Eastern Railway, the affected coach was empty at the time of the fire.

Flames were first noticed by people present at the station, leading to momentary chaos as smoke billowed from the carriage. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and managed to douse the blaze within half an hour, preventing further damage.

Railway personnel acted promptly by separating the burning coach from the rest of the rake to stop the flames from spreading to adjoining compartments. Their swift response ensured that the situation remained under control.

Authorities have launched an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the fire. Preliminary assessments are underway, and officials said further details will be shared once the investigation progresses.
