Kapurthala: In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, three men lost their lives after a speeding bus, reportedly driving on the wrong side, crashed head-on into a small goods carrier near Mand village on the Kapurthala-Jalandhar highway.

The collision was so forceful that the goods vehicle was reduced to mangled metal, leaving its occupants with no chance of survival. The deceased have been identified as Ishwar Lal and Mukesh, both vegetable traders from Kapurthala, and Rakesh, the driver of the vehicle. All three hailed from Bihar. According to police, they were headed towards Jalandhar to purchase fruits and vegetables when the accident occurred.

Protest and Public Anger

The accident sparked anger among locals and relatives of the victims, who rushed to the spot and blocked traffic on the busy highway. They demanded immediate and strict action against the bus driver, who abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene after the crash.

Police Response

Police teams reached the site quickly to control the situation and assured protestors that a detailed investigation would be carried out. The bodies of the victims were sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities confirmed that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the errant driver.

The deadly mishap has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving and violations of traffic rules on Punjab’s highways, sparking calls for stronger enforcement and accountability.
