New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman following his party’s emphatic win in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections, expressing optimism about strengthening ties between the two neighbours.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Modi praised Rahman for steering the BNP to what he described as a “decisive victory,” saying the electoral outcome reflected the confidence reposed in his leadership by the people of Bangladesh. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to supporting a democratic and forward-looking Bangladesh and underscored his eagerness to collaborate on shared priorities, including development and regional cooperation.

The BNP earlier in the day declared its success in the general elections, marking a political shift in the country after the interim government assumed charge following the fall of the Awami League administration in August 2024.
